The simplicity, peace and stunning natural surrounds were what attracted Mal and Leoni Walsh to Reflections Holiday Parks Cudgegong River, which they have been managing since 2014.
With backgrounds in hotel management and a long-term passion for hospitality and customer service, Mal and Leoni love being part of their client’s holiday adventures.
“People come to Cudgegong River looking for that rustic, authentic camping experience and that’s what we provide,” said Leoni.
“There’s no wi-fi here, no mobile reception. At night, you see the campfires scattered about and hear people chatting and laughing. It really brings people together,” she said.
The sheer size of this park brings plenty of freedom for visitors.
“There’s around 150 hectares here so there’s a lot of room to spread out. You can camp pretty much anywhere, even right up to the water’s edge.”
The waters of Burrendong Dam are clearly a major drawcard – with fishing, boating, water-skiing, jet-skiing, wakeboarding and kayaking on the holiday agenda for many of the park’s visitors.
“There’s also plenty to do that doesn’t involve getting wet, such as bike-riding, hiking, bird-watching or even prospecting for gold,” said Leoni.
The gold rush history of the area is of particular interest to Leoni, as well as the resident wildlife. However, it’s the remoteness and stillness that are particularly special for the couple.
“We just love the peacefulness, the serenity of it. Come night time, we don’t have street lights and nothing inhibits the stars. It’s just amazing,” Leoni said.
