Meet Your Host at Grabine Lakeside

Wyangala and Grabine Lakeside Manager Andrew Newson

The landscape, the wildlife and diverse range of activities including camping, 4 wheel driving and fishing was what attracted Andrew Newson to  Reflections Holiday Parks Wyangala Waters and Grabine Lakeside in 2018.

“The wine regions and farmer’s markets were also a bit of a drawcard,” said Andrew. “But it was also the landscape, the views and the remoteness of the park, even though it’s an easy drive into Cowra.”

With a background in hotel and resort management in Western Australia, Andrew now manages both Wyangala Waters and Grabine Lakseside Reflections Holiday Parks. Andrew spends quite a bit of time on Wyangala Dam as a result, as he travels between his two ‘offices’ by boat.

“It’s just 15 minutes by boat, but an hour and a half by car,” he explains.

Andrew finds his visitors come to enjoy the fauna and flora and natural beauty of the park, the relaxed atmosphere, as well as the dam’s first-rate water sports and fishing.

“Around 100,000 Murray cod and 100,000 Perch fingerlings are released into the dam every year, so it’s very well stocked,” he said.

“Families get the whole camping experience here. They spend the day on the water – water-skiing, fishing or kayaking – then have a campfire in the evening.”

The mining and early settler history of the area, including the abandoned gold mines and historic buildings are of particular interest to Andrew.

“Maybe one day one of our visitors will go home with a lot more than a smile on their face,” he said.

Either way, a stay at Reflections Holiday Parks Wyangala Waters or Grabine Lakeside is worth its weight in gold.
