Scotts Head is a beautiful coastal paradise just waiting to be enjoyed. At just 1 hour and 20 minutes out of Port Macquarie, it’s the perfect weekend getaway for those living on the mid-north coast of New South Wales.
This destination is bursting with activities, marine life and amazing views. Here we give you the A-Z of Scotts Head so you know exactly what to expect.
Aerial dreams and aqua greens
This beachside destination is an aerial photographers dream. The waves wrapping majestically around the headland make it a stunning capture for those who love to shoot the ocean. And those aqua greens! They just pop off the sunlit ocean floor.
Whilst this may seem like an obvious point, you really have to see the beauty of Scotts Head for yourself. No words can truly describe it. The main beach stretches on for what seems like miles and there is a cute little lookout at the south end to view the whole beach from above.
There are lots of little coastal walks around this town. They wrap around the headlands offering stunning views up and down the coast. You’ll be able to stay active on your vacation without even feeling like you’re doing hard work.
This town really is the destination to see pods of dolphins. They seem to be everywhere here. On a clear day you’ll be able to spot them easily gliding through the ocean. If you’re lucky, you may even see them jump out of the water as they catch the waves closer to shore.
One aspect you will notice about Scotts Head is how incredibly clean it is. The town is obviously very conscious about their gorgeous environment and know how important it is to keep it that way! (Everyone at the coffee shops bring their own cups too).
Forster Beach is the main beach of Scotts Head. It’s a family friendly beach great for surfing, walking, making sandcastles and cooling off from your morning walk! It’s right across from the shopping village too, so if you’ve forgotten your packed lunch you can just stroll right over!
This little town is a real gem! It’s definitely worth the short drive to experience the beach there. Grassy Head is much quieter than Scotts Head and also has some great surf!
The views the headlands have to offer in Scotts Head are just breathtaking. You could sit up here for hours without a care in the world.
If you ever needed some inspiration to work towards your retirement goals, Scotts Head definitely offers it! You’ll never want to leave this quiet town to go back to city life, encouraging you to really work towards your dreams of coastal living.
Take the journey to get here. It is worth every second spent in the car!
Never seen a Koala in the wild before? Although the Koala population is really in decline in this region, you still may have the chance to spot one high up in the trees here. Enhance your chances by taking a drive inland to Dunngir National Park. It’s about 1 hour 15 minutes away from Scotts Head.
Just one beach south of the main beach is Little Beach. A much quieter surfing spot. You’ll find it as you continue driving along Ocean Street.
Scotts Head is jam packed with marine life! From turtles, to dolphins, and even whales, you’ll be sure to spot at least one of these beauties during your time here!
The perfect way to describe Scotts Head. All of the natural aspects of this town are what contribute to it being so spectacular. It still has that untouched feeling about it.
You really can visit here all year around. It doesn’t matter if it is winter or summer, there is still so much to do and so much to see! Visiting in the off season means it will be noticeably quieter, and your accommodation will also be cheaper.
Picnic at The Pines
The Pines picnic area is a great spot to set up for a long lunch or breakfast on your way up to Yarriabini National Park. Plus, it also has free BBQ’s!
Scotts Head really is a quiet, sleepy town. There isn’t much going on here in terms of developments or shops. Whilst there is a small village, if you’re looking for a clothes store or large supermarket you’ll have to pop up to Nambucca Heads.
Reflections Holiday Park (of course)
The Reflections Holiday Park is perfectly situated in front of Forster Beach, and right across from the shopping village. It’s pet friendly and has all the amenities you’ll need. The beachside cabins are ideal for travelling families. The spacious cabins also have nicely sized front porches to comfortably enjoy a family dinner whilst listening to the sounds of the ocean.
As you’ve probably gathered by now, Scotts Head is a real surf haven, especially for longboarders. When the swell is small it’s also a great place for beginners learning to surf.
This really is the spot if you’re looking to spot some turtles. There’s a great vantage point from Elephant Head. If you look closely, you’ll see them swimming in the shallows below, just beside the rocks.
Ultimate getaway destination
If you live on the mid north coast of New South Wales, this really is the ultimate getaway destination. The drive isn’t too long from larger towns such as Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour! And it’s 5 hours from Sydney if you don’t mind a drive!
The village shops here have 3 great choices for coffee! Along with a small local supermarket, a bakery and a butcher. Is there really much else you need?
During whale migration, you’ll be able to spot dozens of whales. Sit yourself on top of any headland and you’re in for a treat! If you look closely you’ll be able to see them from the beach too!
Scotts Head offers a fun, activity packed experience for those looking to get the most out of their holiday. Take your pick from surfing, swimming, paddle boarding, bushwalking, whale watching and even snorkelling. There is something for everyone!
Yarriabini National Park
This National Park offers a brilliant lookout over the coastline and all of the beautiful surrounds! Head here for an awe-inspiring sunrise or sunset.
Zealous ocean lovers
One thing you’ll notice about Scotts Head is the locals are all ocean lovers! If that’s not really you, you’ll most probably be swayed after your stay here. It’s a true ocean oasis.
