Take your pup to the off-lead dog park
Beach Street Reserve is a great place for dog owners to take their furry friends for some exercise and socialisation. The park is located near the Tuncurry Rock Pool just across the road from Reflections Tuncurry Holiday Park and offers a spacious, fenced-in area where dogs can run around freely and play with other dogs. The park has plenty of grassy areas and agility equipment for your dog to run and play, as well as benches and shade structures for you to sit and relax while your dog has fun.
One of the best things about Beach Street Reserve is the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. You'll often find other dog owners and their dogs playing and socializing, making it a great place for your furry friend to make new friends too. The park is also well-maintained, ensuring it remains a safe and enjoyable space for all.
Surfing at Nine Mile Beach
Nine Mile Beach is a long, unspoiled stretch of sand that offers plenty of space to catch some waves and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. It's a popular surf spot for both locals and visitors alike, with consistent waves that are suitable for surfers of all levels.
Beginner surfers may want to stick to the northern end of the beach, where the waves are smaller and more forgiving. For more experienced surfers, the southern end of the beach offers bigger waves and a more challenging surf break.
In addition to surfing, Nine Mile Beach is also a great spot for swimming, sunbathing, and if you're lucky, whale watching.
Fishing on Wallis Lake
A fishing trip to Wallis Lake is an adventure you won't want to miss! Located just southwest of the beautiful twin towns of Forster-Tuncurry, Wallis Lake is a popular fishing destination that's home to a wide variety of fish species, including Bream, Leatherjacket, Flounder, and more.
When you arrive at Wallis Lake, you can expect to be surrounded by stunning natural scenery, with sparkling blue waters and lush greenery lining the shoreline. The lake is expansive, covering almost 100 square kilometres, so there's plenty of space to explore and find your perfect fishing spot.
Whether you're a seasoned angler or a beginner, there are plenty of fishing opportunities to be had at Wallis Lake. The lake's shallow waters are ideal for lure and bait fishing, with many hotspots located near the lake's entrance and the surrounding rivers and creeks.
Enjoy the Tuncurry Rock Pool
The Tuncurry rock pool is a wonderful place to enjoy a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Coolongolook River. Located on the northern side of the Tuncurry Breakwall, this man-made rock pool is a popular destination for visitors and locals alike.
The rock pool is quite large, with plenty of space for swimming, lounging, and soaking up the sun. Its location on the edge of the breakwall means that it's protected from the waves and currents of the ocean, making it an ideal spot for swimmers of all ages and abilities.
You won't forget the Tuncurry rock pools' natural beauty. The pool is surrounded by towering rocks and lush greenery, giving it a secluded and peaceful feel. There are also plenty of picnic tables and barbecue facilities in the neighbouring Reflections Holiday Park, making it the perfect spot for a day out with family and friends or a weekend retreat from the hustle of city life.
Hike through surrounding national parks
Cape Hawke Lookout
This short walk through the Borri Borri National Park is a must-visit for travellers to Tuncurry. It's only 0.6km to reach the lookout tower, which stands at an impressive 91 meters tall and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area.
From the top of Cape Hawke Lookout Tower, visitors can take in sweeping vistas of the stunning coastline, with views that stretch all the way to Elizabeth Bay in the south and the top of Nine Mile Beach to the north. On a clear day, you may even be able to spot dolphins or whales swimming in the ocean below.
The lookout tower is accessible via a steep but well-maintained walking track that winds its way through the lush rainforest of Booti Booti National Park. Along the way, you'll be treated to glimpses of native wildlife and beautiful flora, including towering eucalyptus trees and vibrant wildflowers.
Bicentennial walk
This coastal walk is 4km, with plenty of options to stop and start at your own pace along the way. It starts at the Ocean Baths on the Forster main beach, before following the coast south through Pebbly Beach and around Bennett's Head to One Mile Beach then finally into the quiet Burgess Beach.
