If you want a physical challenge or just chill time on the water, make SUP a part of your next holiday.

The rising popularity of stand-up paddle (SUP) boarding is not really surprising. It’s super easy to learn. It’s available to almost everyone, regardless of fitness levels. And you don’t need to rely on the ebbs and flow of the waves to get out and have some fun.

Why not grab a picnic hamper and explore the culinary side of SUP? Or try some calming yoga (yes, SUP Yoga is a thing) and enjoy the gentle sounds of water lapping and bird song overhead.

Being active in stunning natural surrounds is what great holidays are all about. And it’s been scientifically proven that spending time in nature does wonders for your happiness levels. Never tried it before? All the more reason to give it a go; it’s sure to be a holiday highlight.

Here are our five favourite places for SUP in NSW.

1. Stand Up Paddle Boarding - Brunswick River, Brunswick Heads

A paddle on the beautiful Brunswick River is practically a must-do when you stay at our parks at Massy Green, Terrace Reserve or Ferry Reserve on the NSW Far North Coast. Calm and inviting, the crystal-clear waters of Brunswick River (and adjacent Simpsons Creek) are home to resident turtles, tropical fish and natural beauty at every turn. Hire some boards from the Brunswick Buccaneers and see what you can see.

2. Boambee Creek, Coffs Coast Stand Up Paddle Boarding

The tranquil waters of Boambee Creek Reserve, a day reserve a short drive from Coffs Harbour on the NSW Coffs Coast, is another SUP boarding paradise. The creek is shallow, sheltered and safe, so it’s perfect for beginners. It’s also easy on the eyes; brimming with wildlife, birdlife and pretty-as-a-picture scenery. No gear? No worries. C-change Adventures operate from Boambee; they’ll set you up with everything you need.

3. Where To Sup Near Camden Haven Inlet, Camden Haven

Keen paddlers would be wise to add Reflections Holiday Parks North Haven to their holiday hit list. Tucked next to the Camden Haven Inlet, this little patch of paradise on the NSW Mid Coast is made for exploring, with a welcoming year-round climate and beautiful vistas every which way. Paddle the inlet under the watchful eye of North Brother Mountain. Or explore nearby Queens Lake; a magnificent lakeside haven for koalas and other wildlife.

4. Wallis Lake Inlet, Forster-Tuncurry Stand Up Paddle Boarding

The large and lovely centrepiece of the Forster-Tuncurry area, Wallis Lake and its waterways are renowned as a fishing, boating and swimming paradise. And that means they’re perfect for some SUP action. A short distance from Reflections Holiday Parks Tuncurry and Reflections Holiday Parks Forster Beach, you’ll love exploring the nooks and crannies around Wallis Island by board. And if you’re really lucky, you might even spot a dolphin or two. Skill up with a lesson from Jungle Surf SUP School, or if you’d prefer to go it alone, you can hire gear from Great Lakes Boat Hire.

5. Stand Up Paddle Boarding Near Myall River, Tea Gardens

There’s a reason they call this part of NSW the Great Lakes District. There are many lakes, they’re pretty great, and they’re perfect for exploring on a stand-up paddle board. The Myall River and its myriad of waterways are just a stone’s throw from our Hawks Nest and Jimmys Beach Holiday Parks. Hire some boards from Ezy Kayaks at Hawks Nest and immerse yourself in this exceptional water playground.

This list is just the beginning. There are plenty of other paddling hotspots near all of our coastal holiday parks. And that’s the beauty of stand-up paddle boarding; it’s versatile, accessible and, most important of all, fun.

So book your next holiday at a Reflections Holiday Park and get on board with SUP; one of the fastest growing sports in the world.
