NSW South Coast

The South Coast entices with its stunning beaches and spectacular natural scenery. This regions offers some of the best game, reef and deep-sea fishing on the coast of NSW and is one of the best areas for whale watching. The national parks feature breath-taking bushwalks and an opportunity to reconnect with nature. For those who like a slower pace, explore charming coastal townships or relax on some of the whitest sands in the world while savouring freshly shucked oysters.

Sapphire Coast: Bermagui, Pambula and Eden

At the tail-end of the unspoilt South Coast of NSW, is the spectacular Sapphire Coast. If you’re after a relaxed seaside location to just get away, then this is the place to be.

Love fishing? Bermagui is the spot, with waterways abundant with Yellow Fin Tuna and Marlins. Eden, at the southern end of the Sapphire Coast is renowned for its ideal whale watching hotspots and strong fishing culture. Pambula’s vintage vibe and idyllic waterways offer a quirky, yet welcome break from busy city life.

Things to see and do:

  • Join a whale watching tour from Twofold Bay during the peak season from September – November
  • Join a deep-sea fishing charter to see who can catch the biggest fish.
  • Check out local markets and community events like Bermagui Seaside Fair and Sculpture Bermagui
  • Hike and birdwatch in the Panboola wetlands or take a swim at the beaches.

Shellharbour: Killalea

Just an hour drive south of Sydney in the Illawarra region, is the beautiful coastline and relaxed lifestyle of Shellharbour, just an hour’s drive south of Sydney.  Famous for its surf beaches, Shellharbour boasts some amazing waves at ‘The Farm’ in Killalea State Park which attracts visitors from near and far.

Things to see and do:

  • Explore the walking tracks through Killalea State Park and the other National Parks and reserves in the surrounding region
  • Spend hours fishing, prawning, kayaking, boating or sailing
  • Take a surf lesson at ‘The Farm’ – a surf beach within Killalea State Park
  • Head to Bushrangers Bay with your snorkelling gear
  • Picnic at one of the National Parks and Reserves
  • Visit the HARS Aircraft Museum
  • Enjoy a Segway tour along the beach
