Your Funny Camping & Caravanning Holiday Stories

Quick LOLs (more further down!)

By Jasmine

Our funniest camping story is about the first time we took our giant rescue dog camping. Chino was very stressed riding in the back of the car and panting a lot. When we arrived, we greeted our friends and their friends whom we had never met before. We let Chino out of the car and he gave his giant head an almighty shake and a giant gooba flew off his jowls and landed on our new acquaintances cheek. She was so disgusted she vomited. Our old friend thought the situation was so hilarious she could not stop laughing, until she wet her pants and we could see the big mark on her pants as she high tailed it to the toilet block!!

Many years ago now and still get brought up every single time we get together!

I hope it gives someone else a good laugh too!

Your Stories!

This January we became a waterfront property for a few hours at Evans Head Reflections. We even had one of those rare “SUP-men” float past. Within a few hours we were back to the park-view that we love, but waterfront for no extra was a bonus!

Some years ago, we were travelling with our A-van and after a long hot day on the road we pulled into our chosen camping ground and started to set-up. After “unfolding” the A-van I stepped inside only to be greeted by an open fridge door. But worse than that was the fact that along with many fridge items that had been rolling around the floor was a previously full bottle of fish oil tablets (240 capsules). The cap had somehow loosened and come off and as we started to pick the tablets up, we found because of the heat they had well and truly stuck to the floor and they burst when we tried to remove them!

I cannot describe the stink and sleeping that night in the van was a very unpleasant experience. We learnt our lesson though and akways made sure the fridge door was locked before driving off.

While it certainly wasn't funny at the time... a caravan adventure last year landed me in hospital with a broken wrist and surgery 2 weeks later.

We were just about to leave to have afternoon drinks and a cheese platter at the local lookout with friends. I lost my footing coming out of the van after forgetting to grab the car keys and hit the astroturf site hard, with my wrist taking the impact.

One hospital visit later, I was patched up as best as the doctors could to get me through until my surgery date. We ended up staying on our caravan holiday for the next few nights as planned, with the help of the good pain relief and enjoyed the local area as much as possible.

My busted arm became the feature in many of our photos for that trip and we all laugh every time we see them, and we got to enjoy our delayed cheese platter the next afternoon.

This was on our first trip in our new caravan. I was excited as I had never towed a caravan before. We were used to living in close quarters as we had a 40ft yacht for 6 years and spent 7 months sailing up to Lizard Island, so being in each other’s faces was not a problem.

We free camped at Point Lowley South Australia for several days. I was very good at predicting weather due to my sailing over 60 years and advised one caravaner on the sand a storm was coming and helped him pack his awning away. I also advised two other caravaners who had commandeered the bbq table and chairs with their caravans.

I explained the clouds and sail a strong change was on its way. I packed my awning away. The men looked at me and their comments were not very welcoming.

The two men went into Whyalla and my wife and I went for a drive.

On our return the change had hit, two women, one on each awning were being lifted into the air by the awnings in the strong gusts. I went to help and it was only a minute or two before the two men returned. They tried to roll their awnings up but the arms were bent and beyond repair.

I said, “I told you a change was coming” they said, “we didn't beleive you”.

I just left them to their own devices without a reply.

Next day the other caravan that I helped and myself unrolled our awning and enjoyed the shade!
